Form

This is the Tour Permit Form (December 2007 Revision.  This form can be printed out and filled out by hand.  It can also be electronically filled out, saved and printed.

This particular form has been customized.  Some of the information has already been filled in (our troop number, council, district, insurance policy number, etc).

Local Tour Permit
Drivers and Insurance Information If the event involves transporting scouts to a destination by automobile, and scouts will be riding with someone other than their own parent or guardian, we must fill out the drivers/insurance information on page two of the form.  You can get this information from this drivers list.  It is acceptable to print this list and attach it to the permit; if you do so, the BSA requests that you highlight the names of those who will be driving (best guess). *You will find that some names are missing from this list (it needs to be updated).

Signatures The Tour Permit must be signed by three people.

(1) The Tour Leader must sign the form (in two places)

(2) A member of the Troop Committee (other than the Tour Leader) must sign; (most BSA-registered adults are members of the Troop Committee)

(3) An "officially designated" Tour Permit Signer must sign for the BSA.  This link takes you to a list provided by our District.   Recommendations:

  1. Contact one of the names on the list... and go from there.
  2. Permits can be signed "on the spot" at the Cabrillo Scout Shop down in San Pedro.  It is recommended that you call first to double-check their hours and that they are still processing tour permits.
  3. According to the District list, Tour Permits can be handled by fax through the Los Angeles Area Council..

"Blue" Books The Tour Leader must obtain, and have in their possession, a "Blue Book".  The Blue Book contains liability release forms and health insurance information for all the scouts in the troop.  Becky Clark maintains the Blue Books.
Guide to Safe Scouting Quoting from the form: "As the tour leader, I certify that appropriate planning has been conducted, qualified and trained supervision is in place, permissions are secured, and I have read and have in my possession a copy of Guide to Safe Scouting and other appropriate resources."  A copy of the Guide to Safe Scouting is included in each Blue Book.  It is also available electronically at this link.
